Boxing Day we woke up to find a very strange mix of weather. There was frost everywhere but there was also a layer of fog that had started to roll in. We had never seen anything like this before so naturally we took a few pics. along the route home.

While I can't tell you what Fatherhood is like personally, I can certainly share with you what I see. My brother became a father late in the summer and it has definitely been an amazing transition. Sometimes I still can't believe that my "big brother" is now a Father. While we had some crazy times as kids, I see that he has definitely become something wonderful.

I feel guilty that I haven't posted anything in a while but here I am back at it! I had been gearing up for my vacation which was a trip to Austria. Two weeks travelling around soaking in the sights. During that trip I was feeling inspired to achieve at least one photograph that I was 100% satisfied with and one that would take me back to where I was standing when I took the photo. Thankfully, I came out with several. I have posted one of my absolute favourites here but I will be posting more on flickr for all to see. I will keep you posted. I went to a great workshop over the weekend out in Guelph. It was held at the Guelph Arboretum and we couldn't have asked for a better day!! While the main focus was on Bird photography, I tried my hand at capturing other critters of mother nature since I don't currently possess a proper zoom lens. It was obvious she was feeding for two so with Eric throwing peanuts her way, she built up the courage to come for them. What made some of them so interesting was the extreme "weathering" the stone itself had been through. It was a beautiful day out today.......perfect for a wee stroll in a Brampton Cemetary! I have passed this particular spot a number of times and have often hoped to get in there to take some photos. I was a bit skeptical at first with jumping on the iPod Podcast wagon, however, I investigated a couple of podcasts that I have found extremely helpful. The picture I have posted tonight is a picture I took last year but the effect on it is something I just recently learned how to do thanks to my podcasts! I can see how an effect like this can be overused or be considered "cliche" but I had to try it!! It looks cool, don't you think?

Sadly, I have not been out lately shooting anything. I have gotten into the habit however of jotting down ideas of photos I'd like to take - whether it's a shot I set up for myself or, just photos I'd love to be able to capture spur of the moment. In time, you will more than likely see them here! Tonight I have posted a photo I took back in '04 when I was travelling around Australia. What a great experience that was and lots of photos to prove it!!
This elephant was at the Australian Zoo (yes, home of the Crocodile Hunter.....no, he was not there that day!) and was being rather social as it stood right at the fenceline.

I made it through my first "official" wedding shoot which took place two weekends ago now!! I have to say that it was a lot of fun and a great learning experience! (thank you Craig and Siobhan for the opportunity!!). I am still in the post production process which, being the "nit-picker" that I am, is taking a little longer than I had anticipated. I am pleased with most of the shots that I took and am learning to accept the ones that are"not-so-great"! ha! Afterall, you can't take 300+ photos and expect them all to turn out, right?! Anyway, once the Bride & Groom have reviewed their photos, and of course with their permission, I will post a couple of my favourites for you to see. I have considered taking a course in Food Photography which I think would be a lot of fun. Over the past couple of years, I have been to more weddings than I can count! It's been great in the sense that each one has been so very different from the other. I will be attending the wedding of a good friend of mine come February and I have been thinking a lot about the kinds of pictures I will take. The pictures I put together tonight are two I took at a wedding I was at last Summer for another good friend. I was experimenting with some of the different settings on my camera and was quite pleased with the end results. There is something very whimsical about these images.........and something that draws you into the excitement of this great celebration!!

Apologies to those who actually check into this site, for not getting new posts up sooner. It's been busy the past week or so for me and it all ended with a great photo opportunity at a dog show! My brother and sister-in-law's puppy was entered into a dog show by their breeder which was very exciting. She was a hit! There was a lot of waiting around so I snapped a shot wherever and whenever I could. The picture I posted tonight is one I took of a bunch of dogs who were competing in another ring for obedience. It was hilarious to see the different personalities within each dog as they sat still waiting to get the "okay" and pat on the head from their respective owners!

This is the kind of picture I would love to be able to walk into whenever I felt the need to get away. If only pictures had that transporting ability! Regardless, I find myself looking at it and thinking fondly of when I was actually there.

Hide & Seek

"hide & seek pigeon" (Nikon CP5400)

While walking under a bridge this weekend, it was funny to see the world that a number of pigeons had created for themselves underneath. In and out of the bridge they flew, poking their heads out intermittently to keep up with what was happening outside. See if you can spot the pigeon that was playing a wee round of hide and seek with me!

I have to say that I am often drawn into bright and colourful subjects. Flowers always catch my eye! Tonight I have included a picture of a beautiful desert rose.

"the art above" (Nikon CP5400)

Something you surely don't see very often is a ceiling completely covered with stained glass! Standing in the center of the Casa Loma Green room, I was enveloped by the beautiful work of art. Truly a sight to see should you get the chance to visit Casa Loma.

Drops of Water...

"after the rain" (Nikon CP5400)

I have always loved pictures that include droplets of water. It's the kind of thing where you either catch it or you don't. This picture was taken just after a massive rain shower. Rain drops or just any droplets of water, are always in the back of my mind so I will have more to share soon!

"stretched hydrant" (Nikon CP5400)

Whether short and stubby, or tall and skinny, Fire Hydrants stick out wherever they are. It's interesting to note the "character" each takes within its surroundings. Such is the case with this one. This photo was taken in a small villa in Jamaica.

"devil's marbles - Australia" (Nikon CP5400)

I didn't realize how tough it would be to select a picture each night!! There are quite a few waiting in the wings, so please keep checking back! I am trying to post a new picture each day so that you can see what I've done and then eventually where I'm going.

The picture I chose tonight is of some of the "Devil's Marbles" in the Australian Outback. This was a great location for photographs and one that I had a lot of fun with!

after numerous nudges to get a photoblog started, i have finally done it!
i am still getting a feeling for how this thing works and until I can host a website of my own, this will do! heck, gotta start somewhere, right?
